BIO
Nate Burns is a guitarist, bassist, arranger, and educator based in Long Beach, California. He has been teaching and performing for over a decade across a wide range of styles including jazz, R&B, folk, rock, and Afro-soul.
Nate’s studio work reflects the same versatility he brings to live performance. He has contributed on guitar, bass, vibraphone, keyboards, vocals, and percussion, as well as arranging and co-producing projects. His recording credits include Coda, the upcoming album by Afro-soul artist Hugo de la Lune; Fool for the Proving (2024) by indie folk band Kalinders; and Two Isles (2016) by psychedelic rock group Monarch. His experience also extends to writing arrangements for both big bands and small ensembles.
Over the last decade, Nate has taught guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, arranging, and theory to students of all ages. His teaching emphasizes creativity and stylistic fluency, with a focus on helping students develop the versatility needed to feel at home playing any style.
Nate holds a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the CSU Long Beach and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Performance from The City College of New York.
